The following products are used for Cospas-Sarsat, the international satellite-based search and rescue (SAR) system for detecting distress alerts and distributing information. Cospas-Sarsat forms part of the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS). Automatic EPIRBs (Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons) are now required on ships operating under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), including commercial fishing vessels and all passenger ships. They are designed to transmit a vessel's identification and accurate location to a Rescue Coordination Centre from anywhere in the world.
